LaCount and Anna Anderson have been in poverty ministry in eastern NC since 2009 working with unhoused people in shelters; working with the Conetoe Family Life Center in Conetoe, NC; and assisting local churches as they meet the needs of the community.
Anna serves as CBF Field Personnel Emeritis with Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. LaCount is President of the Eastern NC Poverty Network, Inc. Both Anna and LaCount serve as CBF Mission Engagement Partners.
Seventeen years ago, we began this work partnering with local churches and businesses to provide poverty relief to eastern North Carolina
Today we are working with Lakeside Church, Rocky Mount, NC; First Baptist of Ahoskie, NC; First Baptist of Raleigh, NC; First Baptist of Smithton, NC; First Baptist of Wilson, NC; First Baptist of Griffin, Ga; Conetoe Family Life Center; United Baptist of Winston-Salem, NC; as well as private individuals who work with us in poverty relief here in eastern NC.
Housing insecurity in eastern NC is a priority of our work. In 2021 we assisted Conetoe Family Life Center in opening a transitional house to aid families with decent housing while in transition.
We also work with other non-profits and churches to provide assistance for people seeking a more secure and healthy place to live. We seek to discuss with others the opportunity to open other transitional houses in communities throughout NC.
Secondly, we participate in a program sponsored by Cooperative Baptist Fellowship entitled: Strengthening Families On The Move. The Strengthening Families program is designed to provide mental health resources to people in poverty who struggle with issues relating to hard things experienced in life. We feel that providing mental health resources is important to navigating life.
